OEM & Manufacturing

Thousands of equipment manufacturers use Whitman parts to ensure the quality and safety of their applications. Spanning process, industrial, and OEM products - Whitman’s uses seem almost endless for the modern Design Engineer who is looking to automate safety shut-offs, pressure warnings, or trigger valve flow and regulation. Whitman has been a leader in high quality pressure and vacuum switches for over 40 years, giving you peace of mind when installing our parts for the lifetime of your application.

We are also ISO 9001 certified, meaning our quality management principles focus on customer satisfaction, management motivation and values, and a strict process approach which strives for continual improvement. Asset management relies on an effective monitoring program. The challenge is finding the right switches and controls that meet your operating needs and budget. Whitman understands the vital importance of reliable parts at a great value, which is why our custom built switches are always competitively priced and quality tested. So add a Whitman part to your switches and controls today and you’ll see the value in reduced maintenance and operations expenses over it’s lifetime of use!

Pump Monitoring

If your application needs to measure pump output pressure or reservoir levels, Whitman’s J205 and liquid level switches can provide just the solution you need. Pumps are incorporated in many processes to move fluids from one location to another. Varying in size, principle of operation and critical control function, their suction and discharge pressures are commonly monitored to ensure system safety and performance with the use of pressure switches and vacuum switches.

Machine Tools

A machine tool is a machine for shaping or machining metal or other rigid materials, usually by cutting, boring, grinding, shearing, or other forms of deformation. Machine tools employ some sort of tool that does the cutting or shaping. Various machine tools require pressure, vacuum and liquid level control. Compactors and balers

Ensure your hydraulic systems keep running smoothly. Whitman parts can monitor filter cleanliness with the use of a differential pressure switch, consistent output pressure, and reservoirs of various liquids for any application no matter the acidity with our stainless steel parts.. Compactors and balers for recycling purposes, agricultural use, or even automotive compactors can all utilize Whitman parts in their hydraulic systems. The j705 is most commonly used in this application. As the trash or material for bailing compacts, the system pressure increases. At some point, usually based on machine capability, the pressure reaches maximum desired output. At this time, our switch reverses the hydraulic lift portion of the unit and that particular cycle is finished.

Pneumatic Systems (Compressor)

Pneumatic systems used in industry are commonly powered by compressed air or compressed inert gases. A centrally located and electrically powered compressor powers cylinders, air motors, and other pneumatic devices. A pneumatic system controlled through manual or automatic solenoid valves is selected when it provides a lower cost, more flexible, or safer alternative to electric motors and actuators. These systems can utilize measurement of pressure gauges, shop air, braking systems, compressors, and even HVAC, through pressure, vacuum and differential switches. The j705 is a useful switch for this particular application. 1 switch monitors the compressor lubrication oil system and will shut down the compressor for either high or low pressure. The other switch is used to turn the unit on and off as the air demand is made and also assuring the compressor pressure will not exceed 5000 PSI.

Automation & Integration

As operations demand more and more efficiency, an accurate pressure sensor can help optimize system performance and facilitate troubleshooting. Many of these applications are seen in the food and beverage industry. In electrical and hydraulic part assembly, vacuum measure is used to pick up parts, checks the presence or absence of parts with a vacuum.

Electroplating & Surfacing

Electroplating is the process of applying one or more layers of a metal to a part by passing a positively charged electrical current through a solution containing dissolved metal ions and a negatively charged electrical current through your part to be plated. Our Liquid Level switches can be used in tanks and pressure switches in delivery lines that put liquid in/out of the tank.

Process equipment

In processing oil & gas, water & wastewater, chemical, pulp & paper, power, metals, minerals, and even food there are hundreds of applications that are used in processing and refining raw elements.

Sewing Machines

Used in industrial showing machines for the top of animal food bags.

Semiconductor

Whitman has a long history with the semiconductor industry. Used almost exclusively in the Silicon Wafer Ovens industry our pressure switches control the doors of the oven, so it can't open oven while still in a vacuum. Our liquid level switches monitor phosphorus trioxide, and because our switches are stainless steel coated in quartz for highly reactive etching liquids, we are durable enough to last in such a tough application.

Air Bearings

Air bearings are frictionless in both static and dynamic states. There is no metal-to-metal contact between the moving parts of this type of bearing. Linear accuracy to 4 million on an inch is standard. Whitman supplies 2 switches, one to Signal a loss of air pressure to the bearing and one to signal loss of vacuum in other parts of the system. The air bearing requires 30 to 100 psi air pressure.

Automated Tooling

This application is used in both Commercial and Military sectors. the P 117 is used as part of the tooling on a robot used in special heat treatment process ease. Our switch is remote mounted and not in the furnace area. Essentially, are switch controls the positioning of the robot hand in placing material and a precise manner in the furnace and also removing the pieces that have completed the process. The control system is pneumatic and our switch senses the pressure build-up when the air is restricted by the tooling, making the proper position and the floor of the Furnace. This is a case of a major manufacturer and supplier designing and utilizing their own Tooling in conjunction with robotics.
